Status of the JET Control and Data Acquisition System CODAS

The Joint European Torus (JET) is the largest single project co-ordinated nuclear fusion research programme of the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom). The members of the JET Joint Undertaking are Euratom, all its associated partners of the fusion programme along with Switzerland and Sweden. JET is the largest tokamak device presently in operation and along with TFTR is designed to operate with deuterium and tritium plasmas in the latter parts of the programme. The machine is shown in Fig.1 and it has overall dimensions of 15m in diameter and 12m in height. The toroidal vacuum vessel has a major radius of 2.96m, with a D-shaped cross-section 2.5m by 4.2m.
