Similarity in Divertor Studies
Dimensionless similarity of tokamak divertors is discussed and a new approximate similarity is proposed. In contrast to the proposal of Lackner, this similarity takes the field-line angle in the divertor to be variable. This enables all the dimensionless plasma parameters to be matched, and places less demand upon the heating power and target heat flux. A least-squares similarity fitting approach is described and applied for different transport assumptions. It shows that existing tokamaks can approximate the dimensionless parameters of the ITER divertor very closely.
