Neutral Particle Analyzer Measurement of the Local Energy Distribution Function of MeV Energy DD Fusion Tritons in JET
A MeV energy neutral particle analyzer was used to measure the flux of tritium atoms emanating from a hot-ion mode deuterium plasma heated with deuterium neutral beams, producing DD fusion tritons. We find that in such plasmas neutralization of the 1.1 MeV tritons was effected mainly by the deuterium beam atoms and by the beam-halo atoms. This enables determination of a spatially localized energy distribution function of DD fusion tritons in the plasma centre. Modeling the measured triton energy distribution function established that MeV energy ions in JET hot-ion mode plasmas equilibrate classically.
