Electron Impact Ionization of Neutral Chromium

We have calculated total and single differential cross sections for electron impact ionization of neutral chromium at 100eV incident energy using the R-matrix method of Bartschat and Burke (1987). For energies above the threshold for the production of the Cr+(3d4 4s)6 D final ioillc state, this state is populated significantly more than the final state Cr+(3d5)6 S. However, a wealth of autoionizing resonances enhance the cross section for the production of the 6S ionic state below the 6D threshold. A list of these resonances is given together with a classification scheme based on quantum defect theory.
