Departures from Sonic Flow at the Sheath on a Divertor Target or Limiter

Sonic transitions in a scrape-off layer (SOL) are discussed, showing the importance of particle and momentum sources, temperature gradients, area change and viscous effects. Supersonic boundary conditions are considered. Sonic transitions are modelled over a wide range of parameters using EDGE1D.
