The COntrol and Data Acquisition System (CODAS) for JET has been fully operational since the first plasma pulse in June 1983. Since then increasing automation of all operations have taken place for both machine control, data acquisition, analysis and display. This paper gives a brief description of the distributed hierarchical nature of the system, and then concentrates on its present operation for control of the JET machine.
